South Terrace, Theatre and Eastern Pavilion Repairs
Following our successful application to English Heritage for funding in 2012, significant repair works have commenced on the Palace in the below key areas:
South Terrace Façade –
The first floor slab has been removed and a new steel structure has been inserted ready for its next stage of works. Cleaning to the front and inner rear facade is complete.
High level repairs to the brickwork and render mouldings are on-going. The stone column capitals have been cut out where they were badly weathered ready for new stones to be inserted and the substantial trees growing from the roof level have been removed. Redecoration of the timber pelmets and balustrades will be undertaken in the next few weeks. Works to the lower level including brick repairs and render repairs will commence in about five weeks when the scaffold to the top is struck.
Eastern Pavilion Buildings -
The east building roof has been renewed in felt, the parapet gutters have also been replaced and new roof lights have been fitted.
The facade has been cleaned and the upper cornice has been reformed. The works are continuing with replacing some of the bricks, and repairs to the badly cracked and missing areas of render.
The final stage of the project is to repair the Theatre roof and seal leaking areas. This is expected to commence in July/August 2013.
We thank you for your patience during these important works and apologise for any on-going inconvenience.
Knight Frank, our property advisor, is progressing with their review of the potential hotel site and is exploring options for engaging future commercial partners. This first phase of this work has focused on research and feasibility studies as well as determining interest levels for the proposed hotel and other potential opportunities for investment within the main events spaces (Great and West Halls). Alexandra Palace continues to work with Knight Frank to determine future potential and approach of the project.
