Alexandra Park has announced a community celebration honouring 150 years of the extraordinary.
The North London destination will delight visitors to its 196 acres of landscaped parkland with an array of free family activities and entertainment, from 11am – 4pm on Sunday 21 July 2013.
Duncan Wilson, Chief Executive for Alexandra Palace said: ‘We are thrilled to be able to announce our community focused celebration marking Alexandra Park’s 150th anniversary.
‘Our jam-packed programme which will be released to the public soon, will provide something for everyone including activities celebrating some of the Park’s vibrant and eclectic past.
‘We are also extremely pleased to announce that the day’s activities and entertainment will feature a variety local businesses, entertainers and community groups from the surrounding areas including Tottenham, Haringay, Highgate and Muswell Hill.’
Alexandra Park’s diverse history is a true reflection of the Victorian enterprising spirit.
Since the original 220 acres of landscaped parkland and pleasure grounds were opened in 1863, the Park has enchanted visitors with panoramic views of London, a miniature Japanese village, a deer park, hot air balloon rides, a frying pan shaped horse racing course, a band stand, a boating lake, a diving pavilion, a croquet court, Red Bull’s Empire of Dirt BMX event, a permanent Park circus and field archery just to name a few.
Wilson continues: ‘What we really hope our historic celebration will achieve is to provide everyone from all over Haringey, whether they have visited Alexandra Park before or not, with a day of free family fun.
‘We want to celebrate the Park’s extraordinary history and exquisite parkland which is accessible to the public all year-long, and recognise the abundance of local talent we have around us.’
