This weekend Alexandra Palace will host Ananda Ustav; a colourful three day event filled with Indian music, food, poetry and entertainment. From Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd April 2011 Ananda Ustav celebrates the spirit of Bengal in the Great Hall and West Hall of Alexandra Palace.
These vast spaces will be consumed by wafting aromas from the food hall and echoing sounds from a distant land. Providing entertainment are world renowned artists including sarod player- Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and famous playback Bollywood singer; Shaan, a rarity amongst Indian singers, who has been opted by international singers for collaboration, working with Blue for the song ‘One Love’ and singing the theme song for the film ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’.
Part of the exciting programme includes a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the first ever recitation of Nobel Peace Prize winner of 1913 – Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s poems in Bengali by Soumitra Chatterjee; translated in Urdu and Hindi and recited by Gulzar with vocal renditions by Kavita Krishnamurthi and Pt Ajoy Chakraborty.
Ananda Ustav was created to connect with the global Indian diasporas by providing a multi city global event. The inaugural event took place at Alexandra Palace last year and was enjoyed by more than 6500 visitors. Following the successful launch in London, Ananda Utsav was also held in Los Angles in September 2010 and will move onto New Jersey in May ending in Sydney at the end of 2011.
