Season’s greetings from the team at Alexandra Palace. Thank you for all of your support throughout the year.
2015 has been a very exciting year for Alexandra Park & Palace. In March we secured a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) which together with match funding from Haringey Council will support major works to restore the east wing of our iconic building, transforming the world-famous former BBC studios into a brand new visitor attraction and enabling our Victorian Theatre to be bought back to life as a performance venue for 21st century audiences.
We continue to look ahead to ensure that future generations are able to enjoy everything the building has to offer. In order to complete the full restoration project and protect it for years to come, our fundraising team are tasked with raising £1m. This year we launched a campaign to help raise this money towards the restoration work at the Palace. If you would like to donate or help us achieve this goal, please click here to find out more.
This year our roster of events has gone from strength to strength with a full programme including sporting highlights such as the World Darts Championship and Masters Snooker. We saw a fantastic season of live music from world class acts, including Disclosure, Faithless, Rudimental, plus four nights from the mighty Florence and the Machine. We have continued to host many large scale exhibitions within the Palace, including for the first time this year the fabulous Classic and Sports Car Show as a great addition to our events schedule.
Our in house events programme was bigger and better than ever, with four Street Food and Craft Beer Festivals taking place along with our standalone German Bier Festival ‘Springfest’ which is now set to become a regular feature in our calendar.
Our first Summer Festival took place on the 25th July this year. The event saw over 25,000 people in attendance and showcased everything our Park and Palace has to offer. Our flagship event the Fireworks Festival returned with a bang in November with an extended event programme and a real festival feel. The event saw 50,000 tickets sold and with overwhelming support and feedback from the public proved to be a truly spectacular bonfire event.
Our learning, community and volunteering programmes underpin our outreach work, and have continued to go from strength to strength this year. We have welcomed over 1,800 pupils on school visits as part of our educational programmes. A highlight this year was our War on the Home Front Exhibition which saw over 5,000 visitors attend to learn the fascinating and little-known history of Alexandra Palace’s role in the First World War.
The Park itself continues to be recognised as one of London’s best green spaces, and we were delighted to be awarded a Green Flag Award for the 7th consecutive year, along with a Green Heritage Award for the 5th consecutive year and the London in Bloom Silver Gilt Award in the large park category. These awards recognise the hard work our team does to keep the Park welcoming and well maintained for the public all year round.
The team at Alexandra Palace wishes you a happy and prosperous 2016.
