On 19 March, 2021 we’ll be hosting our first ever online club night, curated by and for adults with disabilities. Here Marine Begault from the Palace’s Creative Learning team, explains more:
We’re so excited to be launching our very first online club night, We Love to Party, by and for adults with disabilities.
It is part of the Palace’s Rhythm Stick programme, which sees a group of adults with disabilities get together weekly to socialise, meet new people and develop skills in events management and production.
This programme began in 2019 where after ten weeks of training and hard work, the group produced ‘Rave Revolution’ a club night in our Victorian Theatre featuring live music and DJ sets (pictures below).
This project is completely co-produced which means that the group decide on the type of event they want to host and the skills they need and would like to develop. We then facilitate this by drawing on our wealth of experience and networks in this field. After all, there is one thing Ally Pally can do well is put on a great party.
The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a new phase of the programme. The need to create safe social spaces for people with disabilities is perhaps more needed than ever. Moving the project onto zoom has been challenging but has also brought lots of opportunities like reaching people further afield and having attendees who would otherwise struggle to travel to the site.
Rhythm Stick We Love to Party will be taking place on the 19th of March at 7.30 pm on zoom. The Rhythm Stick crew will be taking attendees through an exciting programme of DJs, party games and antics.
