National Volunteers’ Week: Jane’s story

Alexandra Palace is a charity, set up to maintain the historic building and award-winning park for the public to enjoy, forever! Much of the work we do across the Park and Palace would not be possible without the support and commitment of our volunteers.

During Volunteers’ Week we are celebrating the work they do and their stories. One such volunteer is Jane Davidson who has been supporting us since 2014. Join her and her dog Holly for a walk through the Park and find out why she donates her time to Alexandra Palace and what projects she has worked on.

Holly! Are we ready for buggy cam?

Let Holly and I take you on a journey this Volunteers’ Week.

I’m Jane and I volunteer at Alexandra Palace and this is how I get to my volunteering session. Under the original railway bridge, up the slope, Palm Court, South Terrace and we’re there!

I started volunteering about five years ago and I’ve done everything from history tour guide, to front of house, to being a steward and it’s all been really exciting.

I particularly appreciated the time spent in the Transmitter Hall during the “War on the Home Front” exhibition, some of the info you can see here, because I was really unwell at the time and couldn’t work and the volunteering gave me a real sense of purpose.

It’s been wonderful to be a part of the journey with the Theatre improvements and East Court regeneration.

Volunteering gets you to go places and meet people you never normally would! This Volunteers’ Week, what would you like to do?
