The purpose of the Enabling Works Package was to help reduce the risks associated with the project, with the main focus being the decontamination of spaces. Other Enabling Works tasks included removing redundant services (pipes and equipment that is no longer in use), taking down walls and ceilings and lifting floors. This work is now complete.
The various work packages (joinery, glazing, flooring etc.) are now ready and Willmott Dixon have engaged with a range of sub-contractors, some of which are very specialist given the type of work required to restore the spaces.
The new East Court sub-floor (which includes new service trenches to contain cabling for data and power) is nearly complete. The next phase of works will include painting the high-level steelwork.
Works in the Theatre are now concentrated on strengthening the balcony. Now the new sub-floor is complete, a birdcage scaffold has been constructed at the Stage-end of the auditorium so that the plasterwork specialists can start work on the ceiling.
