On Sunday 3 July 2022, the spectacular Red Bull Soapbox Race will be returning to Alexandra Palace for the fifth time.

Once again, wickedly adventurous amateur teams will design and build outrageous soapbox dream machines and compete against the clock in a downhill race.

This amazing event will attract a crowd of up to 20,000 spectators and will require a number of temporary changes to the roads, Park and parking set-up at the Palace. All the information is on this page.

EVENT INFORMATION

Date: Sunday 3 July

Time: Gates open at 10.30am. The event runs from midday-6pm

Build and Breakdown: Thursday 30 June-Monday 4 July

ROAD CLOSURE

Alexandra Palace Way, from Bedford Road entrance to Palm Court will be closed to all traffic from  00.01hrs on Friday 1 July to 16.00hrs on Monday 4 July*. The closure and parking restrictions on Bedford Road will be implemented from 8pm on Saturday 2 July.

*The road closure has had to be extended this year compared to previous events, as a result of the need to remove and reinstall the concrete bollards that were put in place by the Palace to reduce anti-social behaviour during lockdown.

BUS DIVERSION

The W3 will be diverted from 00.01hrs on Friday 1 July until 16.00hrs on Monday 4 July. The Bus will travel along High Road Wood Green and turn right along Turnpike Lane. Please note: while on diversion, the W3 avoids Priory Road between Alexandra Palace Way and Middle Lane. There are no planned changes to the 184 route.

PARK ACCESS

All park gates will remain open throughout the event period. Pedestrian access will be maintained for those walking between the Boating Lake/The Avenue and the South Terrace via the Ice Rink Entrance. Park users entering via Bedford Road will be diverted south around the event site along the Lower Road.

Spectators will access and leave the park on foot; on Sunday 3 July we expect footfall traffic to start picking up from 9.30am onwards ready for gates opening and from 4pm onwards towards the end of the event. We’ll be mitigating heavy footfall to Wood Green station after the event by directing spectators out of the top gates next to Alexandra Palace.

CAR PARKING

Car parks at Alexandra Palace will be closed from Thursday 30 June – Monday 4 July. There is NO event parking on site at Alexandra Palace so all event attendees will need to use public transport to travel to/from the event. Parking on Bedford Road will be significantly reduced so we advise you avoid this during event days where possible.

SOUND

Large TV screens and a PA system will be in place to ensure that all visitors can see and hear the action. The speakers will be positioned facing upwards towards Alexandra Palace to divert sound away from residential areas.

We want to reassure you that we’re taking every precaution to reduce the impact of the sound levels and the sound will be carefully monitored throughout the event. If you do have any concerns on the day, please contact the Ally Pally team via visitor.services@alexandrapalace.com 020 8365 4343
