Taking advantage of the early summer weather last week was the Jayawardena family, who enjoyed a preview of the treats on the menu at Alexandra Palace on Bank Holiday Monday May 31, when it hosts a huge picnic in the park as part of National Family Week 2010.
Pictured with the family are Ally Pally’s Head of Events and Leisure Stephen Garner (back, right), and National Family Week’s Events and Competitions Manager Gemma Fordham.
As London’s flagship location for the bumper picnic – thousands are expected to attend nationwide – Ally Pally is laying on face painting, a funfair, live music, a BBQ on the terrace and a children’s menu for the day in the 196-acre park, which also has plenty of space for youngsters to run around!
“We aim to host the biggest picnic in the capital and urge local families to take advantage of the park on their doorstep and join us in what promises to be a really fun day, ” said Rebecca Kane, Managing Director of Alexandra Palace Trading Limited.
The picnic starts a week of activities at Ally Pally, with family fun every day until 6 June, including “Look harder”, a lakeside art exploration trail and daily funfair. Active families can enjoy walking trails, pitch & putt golf and the boating lake.
On 5 June BBC’s Springwatch visits Alexandra Palace, giving children a chance to join a bug hunt, go worm charming, net a butterfly, try a tree trail and meet science experts from the Natural History Museum as they take part in a huge wildlife hunt against the clock.
National Family Week 2010 runs from 31 May to 6 June when there will be thousands of events and activities running all across the UK to provide fun and exciting ways for families to spend time together. To find out more, log on to www.nationalfamilyweek.co.uk
