Security at Alexandra Palace
When you visit the Park and Palace we want you to have the best experience possible, and this means we have a range of measures in place to make you are safe and secure.
SECURITY EVERY DAY
Security at Alexandra Palace is a 24/7, year-round operation. Our dedicated security team is on-site day and night, 365 days a year, supported by a network of over 100 CCTV cameras and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras covering all arterial routes and car parks. We employ a range of layered measures – some highly visible, others deliberately discreet – to keep our site secure at all times.
We work continually to review, test, and upgrade our systems in line with industry best practice, collaborating closely with the Metropolitan Police, National Security Agencies, and local partners. This includes proactive security forums with key stakeholders, crime prevention panels, and active engagement with local community groups to share intelligence and strengthen our collective safety response.
We are proud to work in partnership with the Metropolitan Police’s Project Servator, which uses a mix of highly visible and unpredictable tactics to deter criminal activity and provide reassurance to the public. Every day, these measures combine to create a safe and secure environment for all visitors, staff, and event partners.
EVENT SECURITY
Your safety is our top priority. Alexandra Palace is protected by over 100 security cameras, highly trained staff, overt and covert security resources, who work in close co-operation with the Police, and utilise cutting-edge safety systems.
If you are attending an event, be aware that there will be additional security measures and infrastructure in place, and please factor extra time into your arrival. These include:
- All visitors passing through Evolv, our industry-leading weapons detection system. Please keep walking as you approach the Evolv Express and only stop if requested by security for further checks.
- Adherence to our bag policy (anchor to bag policy section below) – only bags under our size limits are permitted, and all will be subject to search.
- Enhanced searches may take place and are a condition of entry.
- Overt and covert security teams in operation throughout events.
- Detection dogs deployed around the venue before and during events.
We are proud to support the #BeSafeBeSound campaign, working alongside Counter Terrorism Police and the Metropolitan Police to ensure everyone can enjoy live events safely.
Keep your belongings with you at all times and never leave them unattended.
WHAT YOU CAN DO

- Height 30cm (11.8 inches)
- Width 20cm (7.9 inches)
- Depth 10cm (3.9 inches)
Any bags that do not meet these requirements will be directed to our bag drop.
Exemptions apply for medical purposes, but we ask that you contact us in advance if this applies to you via access@alexandrapalace.com.
BAG POLICY FOR LIVE MUSIC EVENTS IN THE GREAT FAQS
Why do you have a bag policy?
We want as few bags in the venue as possible, and wherever possible encourage you to attend without a bag. It’s all related to safety and helps us to improve security inside the venue. It also helps with the speed of security searches on entry to the Palace.

Any bag bigger than the dimensions listed above will not be allowed into the venue for live music events in the Great Hall. This will typically apply to laptop bags, suitcases, larger handbags and backpacks, among others. If in doubt, don’t bring a bag with you.
Are there any exceptions to the bag policy?
We provide exemptions for medical requirements, but ask that you get in touch with us in advance so that we can confirm your eligibility. Contact the team via access@alexandrapalace.com
Please also see the website page for the event you’re attending and specific event FAQs, as bag policy may differ on an event by event basis.
What if I am coming from work/travelling long distance to London and need to bring a bag?
We always advise to make arrangements to attend the venue without a bag. If this is unavoidable, and your bag is bigger than the dimensions listed above (for live music events in our Great Hall) a bag drop is available where you can store larger bags.
There is a £10 charge for storing your bag here. This charge helps us to cover our costs for running the bag drop.
