Alexandra Park secure 18th consecutive Green Flag Award

Today we’re celebrating our beautiful Park being awarded a Green Flag Award for the 18th straight year!

The Green Flag Award – which is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities – recognises well-managed parks, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

A whopping three million of you visit the Park each year, and our team work every day to care for and keep our 196 acres open for everyone to enjoy. Alongside this painstaking work, we’ve also carried out a range of improvement projects over the past 12 months – from beginning to establish a Wetlands in the south east corner of the Park and hedge-laying in the Grove, to installing new noticeboards at our entrances and repairing our Boating Lake wall.

Much of this work (and plenty more!) has been complete with the help of our gardening volunteers, and of course, the brilliant Friends of Alexandra Park.

Thank you to everyone who continues to visit, donate, volunteer or support our charity’s work to look after and improve the Park.

The latest Green Flag Award comes as the Michael Conway, Contract Manager at John O’Conner, who leads our on-the-ground maintenance team celebrates 30 years working in the Park. Michael says: “I have enjoyed my working life in Alexandra Park and feel a great sense of satisfaction watching all who visit. I have also enjoyed working closely with a diverse group of colleagues, and have made friends with people from all over the world through my role here. Alexandra Park is a vital green lung and refuge for people to escape the hustle and bustle of London life. It’s been great to watch the Park and Palace evolve to become a go to destination for all.”
