Earlier this week, ITV London visited Alexandra Palace Ice Rink to film a special feature celebrating British ice Skating stars and the place where some remarkable Olympic skating journeys began.
For us at Ally Pally, it was a proud moment. Alexandra Palace Ice Rink is the home rink where Olympic ice dance stars Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson first started skating together and began building the partnership that has taken them onto the world stage.
A rink where skating careers begin
ITV London’s Sally Williams interviewed our Head Coach Becky Smith, who spoke about the passion, commitment and teamwork that go into developing ice dancers from their very first sessions on the ice.
They also met two of the incredible young skaters following in Lilah and Lewis’s footsteps, British Junior Ice Dance Champions Mimi Marler-Davies and Joseph Black. Their presence highlighted what we see every day at Ally Pally: a rink full of ambition, talent, commitment and excitement for the sport.
From Ally Pally beginnings to Olympic dreams
Lilah and Lewis began their journey here at Alexandra Palace Ice Rink, and since forming their partnership in 2016, they have risen through the ranks to become one of GB’s most exciting ice dance partnerships.
Now, they are medal contenders in the 2026 Winter Olympics, aiming to become Britain’s first Olympic figure skating medallists since Torvill and Dean in 1994 – a truly historic achievement.
Lilah and Lewis will skate their medal-deciding free dance on Wednesday 11 February 2026, broadcast on the BBC. It’s an unmissable moment, and one that means a huge amount to everyone connected to Alexandra Palace Ice Rink. We’re also sending our very best wishes to Phebe Bekker and James Hernandez as they compete.
Good luck Lilah and Lewis – everyone at Ally Pally will be watching and cheering you on!
