During the covid-19 lockdown we’ve been challenged to find new, safe ways to bring people entertainment. Enter Rooftop Film Club who have returned to the Palace this summer with their award-winning drive-in, for a series of al-fresco film screenings enjoyed from the comfort of your own car. Find out a little more about Drive In Film Club from the kings of outdoor cinema:
All around the world, a new normal has emerged — date nights aren’t quite the same, friendly hugs have all but vanished, and your new hair isn’t the only thing that looks different at the salon. Enter: Drive In Film Club, the purveyors of social cinema on a mission to offer Londoners a much-needed escape in a currency universally known and loved: the movie night.
“We want to bring people together, albeit safely, during this challenging age of social distancing; leaving your home in the safety of your vehicle will provide a fresh opportunity to share new experiences with the people you’re isolated with.” Gerry Cottle, the co-founder of Rooftop Film Club, said. “We also want to give our staff an opportunity to earn a living without compromising their health, and partner with local businesses so they can continue to operate and generate economic value.”

The drive-in features everything you expect from a trip to the cinema — a big screen, the chance to cuddle up to a loved one, and all the cinema snacks your heart desires — but with a few changes to ensure the safety of all guests and staff during these strange times.
Vehicles are appropriately distanced and high-contact areas are consistently cleaned, with sanitation solutions available and all staff members wearing masks. The Drive In Film Club experience is entirely cashless, so all transactions are done online, including getting all the cinema snacks you know and love, from popcorn and sweets to alcoholic beverages and hot food from Popdogs — all delivered straight to your vehicle by speedy skaters for a truly contact-free experience.
Drive In Film Club have taken movie nights to new heights with multiple screenings every day so there’s something for everyone. Gather your friends, buckle up and head on over — will it be a musical rom-com, a creepy thriller, an indie drama, or an action-packed blockbuster? The choice is yours at the drive-in!

Alexandra Palace is run by a charity for the benefit of everyone. It’s loved by many people: as a historic landmark, ice rink, legendary gig venue, exhibition centre, theatre, park with panoramic views and more. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic our income has fallen catastrophically and our survival is at risk. Your support can help: as a charity, every £1 we receive is reinvested back into the organisation and will help us get back on our feet.
