Alexandra Palace – the People’s Palace, will once again leave a mark for future generations, with the burial of a commemorative ice rink time – capsule on Thursday 23rd September 2010 at 11am.

The time-capsule – to be buried underneath the new rink – will be filled with unique ice rink memorabilia and artefacts, gathered from the many events held over the years. The ice rink, which is due to be completed in early January 2010, also celebrates its 20th anniversary; having provided a fantastic venue enjoyed by novices, amateurs and professionals alike since 1990.

Following a public ‘Save Our Ice Rink’ campaign, the decision to keep the rink was welcomed by many and the £2million investment received, ensures that one of London’s best rinks will be enjoyed by future generations.

Alongside the time-capsule activity, Ally Pally is also offering Londoners the chance to tweet in their Ally Pally memories, as part of a new ‘Twistory’ campaign.

The Twistory tweets, will allow people to send in their messages – be that the first time they visited the venue, the first gig that they saw, or indeed the first time that they skated on the ice rink – and forever be a part of Ally Pally’s wonderful history.

The Twistory campaign is designed to show the way that different generations use or have been involved with Ally Pally over the years.

Rebecca KaneManaging Director, Rebecca Kane: “The ice rink is one of our key attractions and has provided people from all over the country with hours of fun and entertainment. The ‘save our ice rink’ campaign highlighted just how passionate people are about the ice rink and we are grateful that it was given the investment that it deserved. Ally Pally is the People’s Palace and we want to continue providing world–class activities and events for future generations; we are very much looking forward to welcoming people back to the ice rink in the New Year.”.
