Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Mandle Cheung

21 Aug 2026

Alexandra Palace Theatre

Live at Alexandra Palace Theatre this August, Mandle Cheung leads the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brighton Festival Chorus, joined by soloists Elizabeth Watts and Jennifer Johnston.

From the searching intensity of its opening movement to the hushed entrance of the chorus and the radiant affirmation of its closing pages, Gustav Mahler’s Second Symphony unfolds as a deeply human journey. One of the composer’s most expansive works, the “Resurrection Symphony” confronts questions of loss, faith, and renewal on a monumental scale.

Suitable for all ages.

About Mandle Cheung

In 2017, Cheung founded the Mandle Philharmonic Orchestra in Toronto, Canada. Since then, the ensemble has presented 19 concert programmes to largely sold-out audiences at leading venues across the city, performing repertoire including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, ‘Choral’  and various symphonies by Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and Mahler.

In June 2025, Cheung conducted the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, further demonstrating his affinity for the composer’s music.
