The Fish Bowl Exhibition

15 - 26 Sep 2025

Creativity Pavilion

Have you ever felt like a little fish in a big pond? What about a really, really tiny fish in an absolutely massive ocean?

As young, emerging artists, it’s a daunting world out there. A million other tiny fish vie for the same residency, the same open call slot, the same fellowship. Your friend is your competitor, every person you meet a networking opportunity you hope you don’t screw up. And of course, in the undercurrent, there’s the echoing voice of all your old lecturers telling you that almost none of you will grow into big fish.

You can’t put an end to all that in one exhibition, but you can make the most of the situation. The Fish Bowl is here to do just that.

We are a group of artists in our 20s, most fresh out of art school and tossed into the great big ocean. We want to lift each other up, rather than compete. We reject the cynical aesthetics of the modern art world. Throughout a variety of media including textiles, photography, and painting, we are carving out our own space within the creative sphere.

Take a peek inside our fish bowl… we don’t bite. Words by MATTY.

The Fish Bowl is possible thanks to Ally Pally’s Young Creatives Network

The exbibition will be open from 9.30am – 5.30pm each day – activities will continue in the Creativity Pavilion and around the exhibition, everyone is welcome.
