Later… with Jools Holland returns to Alexandra Palace Theatre

Later… with Jools Holland returns with a brand new series filled with live music and chat, once again filmed at our beautiful Alexandra Palace Theatre.

The series begins on Sunday 11 October at 10pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

Later with Jools Holland series 69

In this first episode, Jools welcomes Paul Heaton, who has recently been celebrating his first ever Number 1 album with his latest record, Jenius. He performs a couple of tracks from the album with his band, featuring lead vocals from Scottish singer-songwriter Rianne Downey. They also perform a treat from Paul’s catalogue of hits with The Beautiful South.

The remaining performing artists on the line-up are all making their TV debuts on the show. From South East London, Jools welcomes vocal powerhouse Skye Newman, who has been enjoying a whirlwind year of success following the release of her two projects SE9 Pt.1 and SE9 Pt.2. She performs two tracks, including her Top 5 single Family Matters, and also joins Jools at the piano for a chat and their emotional rendition of the Bill Withers’ song Ain’t No Sunshine.

From Northampton, gospel-inspired rapper DC3 won a couple of awards at this year’s MOBO Awards and is now set to release his debut mixtape. He performs his single KUNTA IN UK with his band, a track inspired by the story of Kunta Kinte, the central character in Alex Haley’s Roots: The Saga of an American Family.

Also from South London, three-piece indie band mary in the junkyard perform their track Blood, taken from their debut album Role Model Hermit, which draws on the “story telling techniques of folk music and utilises its eleven tracks to build an expansive world of fables, folk tales, and veiled personal anecdotes”.

Completing the musical line-up, hailing from Wiltshire, is singer-songwriter Dermot Henry, who began busking in the streets of Paris and now makes his TV debut performing his track I Love You, That’s All.

Jools also chats to the legendary Johnny Marr about his new album The Age Of Everything, as well as stories of his guitar collection and a recent auction which saw him sell over 80 guitars and studio equipment from his near-45-year career.

Also appearing this series are Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Bloc Party, Courtney Barnett, Dexys Midnight Runners, Elkie Brooks, Emily Bear, Ibibio Sound Machine, Jamie T, Kingfishr, Madra Salach, Moses Boyd, Mulaa Joans, Royal Blood, Shygirl, Tony Iommi, Violet Grohl and many more.
