Earthquake Fundraiser with Ahmet Aslan, Dodan & Rengin

24 Jun 2023

This June, we will be hosting a fundraiser concert at Alexandra Palace Theatre for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkey that took place on 6 February.

The event is being organised by the Refugee Workers Cultural Association in partnership with various other Turkish and Kurdish-led organisations. Many members of the UK community have been directly impacted by this tragedy, and this event is an opportunity for people to come together and show solidarity. Funds raised from the event will be sent directly to organisations that have been providing relief efforts to those affected by the earthquake. The concert will not only be an opportunity to raise funds but to also raise awareness of the long-term impact of natural disasters on affected communities.

About the performers:
Ahmet Aslan (born 1971 in Dersim) is a Kurdish musician of Zaza descent. He performs classical songs in Turkish, Zazaki and Kurdish.

Dodan is the 2017 winner of The Voice Turkey. Born in 1978, Dodan is well known for his Kurdish songs.

Rengin women’s choir began online during the COVID-19 pandemic, using the healing power of music and togetherness to overcome the negative social and psychological effects of isolation and lockdown. It grew rapidly, and now has 80 members singing at the Refugee Workers Cultural Association venue twice a week under the name RENGIN KADIN KOROSU. Their last concert was at the Dominion Hall watched by 2,000 people.

ROAD WORKS: essential road works outside our west/Muswell Hill entrance will impact some road and bus routes to Alexandra Palace between now and July. More details are available here.
