ENO Studio Live: The Day After

30 Apr - 2 May 2020

Doors: 19:00

When Phaeton seeks the rewards of a God, his arrogance costs the earth.

Based on the myth of Phaeton from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Jonathan Dove’s chamber opera uses the apocalyptic vision of the sun scorching the earth to explore the issue of climate change. Set after a global catastrophe, the survivors relive the events that led to disaster.

This choral version of the opera, with a libretto from April de Angelis, was written specifically for ENO’s award-winning Chorus. Jamie Manton returns to direct this ‘darkly atmospheric’ (The Guardian) production, with designs by Linbury Prize winner Camilla Clarke.
