The Friends of Alexandra Park, alongside the Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust, has launched a crowdfunding appeal for a brand-new boardwalk through Alexandra Park’s wetlands, helping more people experience one of the Park’s most important wildlife habitats.
Launched on Monday 11 May 2026, the campaign will support the creation of an accessible route through the wetlands in the south-east corner of the Park, opening access to the birdwatching platform, locally known as Bruce’s Platform, for people of all ages and abilities.
The boardwalk forms part of the Park’s wider wetlands and rewilding work, which aims to create healthier habitats for birds, amphibians, insects, aquatic wildlife and native plants, while helping improve water management and reduce flooding across the Park. Earlier phases of the wetlands project received support from the Mayor of London’s Rewild London Fund as part of a longer-term vision for the future development of the wetlands area.
Patricia Moody, Chair of the Friends of Alexandra Park, says: “By installing a boardwalk, we are opening access to the wetlands, making this beautiful part of the Park accessible to every member of our community. As we celebrate 20 years of the Friends of Alexandra Park, we are proud to mark this milestone by fundraising for a lasting community project that people can enjoy for generations to come. Every pound raised will help fund another plank on the boardwalk and bring us one step closer to creating a more inclusive and welcoming wetlands experience for everyone.”

Mark Evison, Head of Park and Environmental Sustainability at Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust, adds; “The wetlands are becoming an increasingly important natural habitat within Alexandra Park, supporting biodiversity and improving climate resilience across the site. This campaign will help create safer and more accessible routes to the wetlands and birdwatching areas, including people with mobility needs, and encouraging more visitors to connect with nature and explore wildlife in the park. It highlights the positive impact Alexandra Park’s open green spaces can have on both wildlife and people.”
The Friends of Alexandra Park is encouraging local residents, Park visitors and supporters of green spaces to contribute to the campaign and help create a lasting legacy for future generations.
