Red Bull Soapbox Race 2017 Info


We will once again be hosting the Red Bull Soapbox Race, an international event where 70 teams of amateur drivers with homemade soapbox vehicles will entertain 20,000 supporters for a fun-filled day.

Park closure:

The event will be located on the east side of the Park, public access will be restricted from 12noon on Friday 7th July until 5am on Monday 10th July, to allow for setup and breakdown of the event.

All other areas of the Park and Palace will remain open to the public throughout, including the Ice Rink, Pitch & Putt, Little Dinosaurs, Go Ape, Garden Centre, Boating Lake and play areas.

Setup: will take place from Thursday 6th to Saturday 8th July.
Event: will open at 9.30am and close at 6pm on Sunday 9th July.
Breakdown: overnight on Sunday until 5am on Monday 10th July when the full park and roads
will re-open.

Road closures and public transport

Alexandra Palace Way (from the Bedford Road entrance to Palm Court) will be closed to all traffic from 12noon on Friday 7th July to 5am on Monday 10th July. The parking restrictions and closure of Bedford Road will be implemented from 8pm on Saturday 8th July. The W3 bus will be diverted from Wood Green via Turnpike Lane onto Hornsey High Street from 11.45am
on Friday 7th to 5am on Monday 10th July. There are no planned changes to the 184 bus route or services into Alexandra Palace Rail and Wood Green Underground stations.

Car parks

Alexandra Palace car parks will be closed for public use on Friday 7th – Sunday 9th July inclusive. We are encouraging all event attendees to arrive via public transport.

Ice rink access

The ice rink will remain open during this time. Here is how to access the rink:

DRIVING: The Grove and Paddocks are your designated car parks and will be accessible from the west (Muswell Hill). Allow extra time to walk to the Ice Rink entrance.

ON-FOOT: All gates to the park will be open during the period. However, please note that pedestrians entering the park from the east at Alexandra Palace station will be diverted south around the event site, adding approx 10 minutes to the walking time.

Park access

All park gates will remain open throughout the event period. Pedestrian access will be maintained for those walking between the Boating Lake / The Avenue and the South Terrace via the Ice Rink entrance. Park users entering at Bedford Road will be diverted south around the event site along the Lower Road. At the start and end of the event there is anticipated to be
heavy pedestrian traffic along this route.
